It is that time of year again and we at Gulf Charters are anxiously waiting to cast off for one of our favorite events of the year- the sail into Cambodia waters. This 600+ NM cruise is packed full of all the things that make live aboard sailing so enjoyable. Open water sea miles and coastal cruising, remote and little visited island destinations, the chance to visit isolated villages, pristine, uninhabited beaches, clear water swimming and snorkeling and a party town landfall in Sihanookville.

We are looking for a few join in crew members who can participate in handling the boat and become involved with the day to day operations of the boat. This is a great chance to get a feel for long range cruising and life at sea.

Gulf Charters has a history of “pioneering sailing” here in the Gulf of Thailand and this adventure definitely falls into that category.

If you can only go to sea for 1 week of the year, this should be the one. A real voyage of discovery, be one of the first sailors in modern times to take a yacht into this fascinating part of the world.

We hope you will be able to join us. Please contact Capt. Tim to join up or if you have any additional questions. Tim@gulfchartersthailand.com

What do I bring?

Passport and Visa: You will need a valid passport and tourist visa to enter Cambodia. We will be able to arrange the visa (extra charge) if we have access to your passport on the 23rd of September. Otherwise you will need to make visa arrangements on your own. Gulf Charters will need to have all crew passports with visa in hand by 11:00, September 26th in order to complete check out formalities. Please contact for additional information.

Money: In Cambodia, most people use US Dollars. Thai baht is also accepted, but the exchange rate is a bit unfair. Your ATM/credit card should work fine in both Thailand and Cambodia. Please note that the join in cost will cover all your expenses and the only need for additional money will be if you would like to purchase items on shore in the few locations where that will be possible.

Clothing: The attire on the boat is very casual – swimsuits and bare feet by day, shorts and shirt, or sarongs, and sandals in the evening. A windbreaker or similar for standing the night watches. You might want to bring hiking sandals or shoes for exploring the trails or shopping. No dark soled shoes allowed on deck.

Other gear: Swim suits, dive skin, fins, mask, snorkel, fishing gear, sailing gloves, sailing rain gear, and any other toys you want to bring along, but it is recommended to keep it simple.

Personal items: Sunscreen, sun glasses, hat, light sweater or wind breaker (it can get nippy after a rain shower), camera, film, extra memory cards, batteries, dry bag & mosquito repellant (if you go ashore). Personal hygiene items: toothbrush & paste, shampoo & crème rinse, soap & deodorant, prescription medication, spare prescription eyewear etc.

Join-in Sailing and Cruising Rally Details:

Join the Gulf Charters Sailing School group aboard “WHITE SEAL”, our Wharram 52’ catamaran, and enjoy this relaxing Island Style cruising rally event in comfort and style. The broad decks and comfortable cabins of this traditional vessel provide the perfect platform from which to watch the spectacular shoreline of the Ko Chang archipelago slide past. We will spend the days sailing, swimming, beach hopping and exploring this fresh cruising area. In the evening we will participate in the Gulf Charters organized onshore festivities, now famous for their ambience and fun. Each evening a new location and setting creates a new tropical atmosphere. Food and drink included. Last year had over 25 yachts and 125 sailors in attendance. This year is set to be a bit bigger and better than ever… DON’T MISS OUT!!!

Four day cruise in one of the most beautiful and unexplored cruising grounds in Thailand…

The Ko Chang and Ko Kut Archipelago has so much to offer the cruising yachtsman yet it remains largely unexplored. With fair winds and protected waters the area offers great sailing conditions. Good anchorages are abundant, anchor off uninhabited beaches or off one the exclusive secluded beach resorts and restaurants. Our favorite are the bays of Ko Kut where you can take a dinghy ride up the mangrove lined river estuaries, park and take a short walk to a spectacular freshwater waterfall to freshen up.

The Ko Chang Cruising Rally is designed to bring together a broad cross section of sailing enthusiasts, it offers to those that are not yet ready to cruise alone the chance to sail in company with support near by. To the seasoned cruiser, it offers the comradery at evening parties and a fast track to all the very best locations.

Itinerary summary(see below for detailed itinerary)

Thursday 9th @ 14:00 Yacht delivery- Pattaya – Ko Chang (option add 2000baht)

Friday evening 10th of April 09, Ko Chang GCT base.(attendance optional)

Saturday 11th; depart Ko Change base (must be aboard by 12:00)

Sunday 12th; Ko Kut, Ao Yai fishing village.

Monday 13th; Ko Kut, Captain Hooks Resort.

Tuesday 14th; Ko Rang beach party.

Wednesday 15th; Return to Ko Chang GCT base @14:00

Overview of the event

Friday the 10th of April (attendance optional)

Gulf Charters will kick off the event with a low key BBQ on Friday night at our base in Ko Chang. Join in sailors have access to “WHITE SEAL” on Friday and are welcome to sleep aboard. Alternatively you can rent a room at Island View Resort for 1000 baht per night, the rooms are air conditioned and have two single beds.

Saturday the 11th of April

The first day of the flotilla usually starts off at a leisurely pace, but all join in sailors must be at the Gulf Charters Ko Chang base by 12:00, ready to set sail. We generally head out around lunch time for the sail across to Ko Mak via Ko Rang for some snorkeling. The first party will be on the beach in the northeastern bay, a BBQ around the the pool at the new very chilled Ko Mak Sabai bar.

Sunday the 12th of April

The nights festivities will be in on the fishing village pier, this being one the highlights of the trip. This sleepy little fishing village rarely see foreigners never mind a fleet of yachts and they take their opportunity to host this event very seriously. If you are a seafood lover be prepared for something special as the ladies of the village will make sure this is a memorable feast.

Monday the 13th of April

At this point we always notice the difference in our guests, everyone look to be getting into the swing of things and enjoying the slower pace of Island life and cruising lifestyle. Our favorite thing to do on this day is to drop anchor and visit one of the waterfalls on the way to Captain Hooks resort. Captain hooks is spectacular, located in a picture perfect tropical island setting, coconut tree lined white sandy beach and for those that like to be pampered the resort offers Thai massage in coolness of the shade of the ferns, and yes yet another spectacular buffet dinner at the sunset viewing platform over looking the beach and nearby islands.

Tuesday the 14th of April

Well at this stage this is a surprise, that is to say we’re not sure where we’re going yet, could be a beach party on a private beach….

Wednesday the 15th of April

Well all things must come to an end I’m afraid, Tuesday we cruise back to Ko Chang, at a leisurely pace though, the journey is around 25nm and we aim to arrive on the dock for 2:00pm, just enough time for those that need to catch the last flight out that day.

How much will the Ko Chang Cruising Rally cost? :

The Jion-in fee aboard the Gulf Charters Sailing School boat is 25,000baht per person which includes all meals starting with Lunch on April 11th and ending with Lunch on the 15th, onboard accommodation from the 10th to the 15th, all yacht and crew costs, and admission to all Cruising Rally events, dinners, parties etc.

Yes, sounds great! How do I join? :

If you have any additional questions or would like to join us aboard “White Seal”, please contact sailing school director, Capt. Tim McMahon, for payment and travel information.

tim@gulfchartersthailand.com or call : +66 84 539 9689

What do I bring?

Money: Although all your join in costs are covered in your fee, you may want to bring along a bit of spending money should you decide to do a bit of island exploring and to pay for any other items you decide to purchase along the way.

Clothing: The attire on the boat is very casual – swimsuits and bare feet by day, shorts and shirt, or sarongs, and sandals in the evening.

Personal items: Sunscreen, sun glasses, hat, light sweater or wind breaker (it can get nippy after a rain shower), camera, film, extra memory cards, batteries, (there is a laptop computer on board), dry bag & mosquito repellant (if you go ashore).
Getting to Gulf Charters at Ko Chang

Flying from Bangkok:

Bangkok airways operate three flights per day to Trat. Gulf Charters can book a taxi service for you to get you to and from the Gulf Charters Ko Chang base in Ao Salakpet.

Driving from Bangkok:
